How To Find The Right Mold Remediation Contractor in NJ

All NJ mold remediation contractors are not the same.

Many of them do not even have specialized mold insurance or certification.

So how do you find the right mold remediation contractor? Well its not as hard as you would think. You just need to keep your eye open for a few basic things.

1) A certified mold remediation contractor will always wear protection while performing an inspection. Since they are exposed to mold on a daily basis, they should never be caught without a mask on. Especially while performing remediation work.

2) If you ask the inspector for certifications, and he shows you contractor certification, rather than mold certification, he is not a certified mold remediator.

3) Have him explain to you the work his company plans on doing. If they do not plan on addressing moisture problems, this should set off red flags immediately. There is no point performing remediation work if moisture problems are properly addressed first.

4) If the contractor plans on performing remediation work, without the use of negative air machines, do not sign the contract! These machines must vent the mold spores outside your home during work, otherwise mold spores will travel to other areas of the home.

5) HEPA vaccuums should always be used twice. Once to vaccuum up dust/dirt/debree prior to the remediation, then once again following the remediation. Always check to make sure they are using HEPA filters and not regular dry vac filters which are useless for mold remediation.

These are just a few general rules that a certified mold remediation contractor will follow. As far as price goes, you should never be asked to pay more than $2.25/sq2 ft. We have been performing remediation for 15 years, and we know what most companies charge. Many are charging far more than $2.25/sq2 ft. We've seen companies charge as much as $3.60/sq2 ft which is a rip off. If the salesman tries to sell you services that you don't understand, do not sign any contractors. Many companies are now using fogger backpacks, that look like the backpacks used in ghostbusters. Not only are these backpacks expensive, but they are a waste of time and money.

Most importantly, the walls always need to be scrubbed first. A rotating wirebrush is the best way to accomplish this. As well as the most economical. If you have any questions about mold, or would like a free mold inspection, you can call Randy at 908-601-1307.
