Chemicals For Mold Remediation & What You Need To Know About Them

Many people do not understand how useless most compounds are for killing mold. If mold remediation is not done the right way the first time around, then there is no point of doing it in the first place.

Bleach for mold removal -

Bleach is a sodium hypochlorite solution and all hypochlorites are far too toxic for use in mold remediation. There are a couple serious issues with using bleach for killing mold.

1) It is known to have a corrossive effect on both wood and concrete. Because of this, the bleach breaks down the surface of the material into partially decayed organic materials. Then you are left with 96% water from the bleach, and decayed organic materials. This = a great form of food for all types of mold.

2) For mold remediation, you need nano based technology. Bleach is not this type of technology. Without nano based mold agents this chemical can not bypass deep into materials to kill the root structure of mold.

This is why I do not recommend the use of bleach for killing mold. It is a waste of time and not effective at all. Not to mention the dangers of mold reacting with it to release toxic VOC's (volatile organic compounds).

Carbonates for mold removal -

This is what Lowes & Home Depot love to sell for $30 a gallon. Do you even realize what you're paying so much for? Its about 1lb of baking soda mixed in a gallon of water. Which costs less than $1 to manufacture, then you get to pay $30. And for a compound that does NOT even kill mold!

For mold remediation purposes, carbonate solutions are worthless. They can temporarily make the surface of materials alkaline, and slow the growth of mold, but without nano based technology or polymers to seal them onto the surface, they will last at most 2-4 weeks.

Bleach solutions and carbonate solutions are both useless for mold remediation. Do not use them.

Not to mention, there is a lot more involved in the mold removal process than the simple spraying of chemicals on a surface. Like the actual labor of using wirebrushes to remove as much mold as possible. Using negative air machines to catch the mold spores as they're released into the air. Containing the entire area when its treated with a nano based compound like Anabec - 250. Drying the area without the use of fans as they will only spread mold spores.

This is why mold remediation specialists get paid to do this type of work. If you live in the NJ area and can use a free mold inspection, just call Randy at 908-601-1307.
